The UK and in particular London is considered to be the art capital of Europe. I want to know what are the best galleries in the UK which specialise in contemporary realism.

Current Paint Color Trends

Interior: The most common paint color is white; white is a good choice for many, as it goes well with anybody’s style. It has a tendency to make a room look larger than it is, so white is especially good for smaller rooms. The second most popular color would have to be light brown, like a light latte color. This is best for larger rooms, as it doesn’t make it look bigger like white does; it also brings a nice warm feel to the space. The last color, is one which has become very popular but is normally used as an accent wall, if you haven’t guessed it already, the color is red. You will sometimes find red in kitchens and bathrooms too, only they usually have more of a Cranberry tinge to them.

Exterior: The most popular color when it comes to painting the exterior of your home is white or off-white, often these homes have a dark trim and sometimes shutters. After white it’s really a toss up, it seems that depending on the area you live in the second most popular would either be, browns/tans or blue/grey. Following these colors are yellows and greens, with red and pink falling behind. Mainly due to the fact that people in general like their homes to blend in with the rest of the neighborhood, and the brighter the color, the harder it is to match with the permanent fixtures on your home.

Paint Colors That Are Always Stylish

An easy way to remember the colors that never lose their appeal is to think of nature, nature never goes out of style. That being said colors such as white, beige, brown, tan, and grey used in moderation. Paint with these colors and you can’t go wrong.

Home Styles

Classic Style Description – A classic styled home usually works best in a heritage home only for the reason that to get a true classic look you need rooms rather than open spaces where the rooms flow into one another. Classic looks are composed by much planned out decorating, décor is very symmetrical. The objects you have in a room aren’t nearly as important as the way they’re arranged.

Contemporary Style Description – A contemporary look is one which is very clean, with smooth lines. It’s the most simple of styles, brought together by the use of glass, steel, and stone. Also the colors you use need to be solid, normally in beige, creams, whites, and blacks, homes with a contemporary style have minimal use of detail such as carvings and even the light you use should be lighting that focuses not on the fixture but just of the light it gives out.

Country Style Description – To achieve a country style look in your home, just utilize the use of woods, some furnishings will have the use of chicken wire instead of glass, on cabinet doors. A popular fabric choice is plaid, of all the styles this one would be the most likely to look a little cluttered but if you decorate accordingly you can achieve a beautiful country tone, but with a clean up-to-date appearance.

Eclectic Style Description – Anyone can easily create an eclectic looking home, mostly due to the fact that pretty much anything goes with this style. The purpose is to mix and match different types of furnishings, woods, colors, and textiles. This is a good choice for large families or ones with different ideas of style since you can actually mix earth tones with color and antiques with new pieces.

Modern Style Description – Geometrical shapes and colors such as dark brown, black, and chrome are use to create a modern look, often with hints of deep colors throughout a room. One of the main goals when creating this style is to have the furniture to appear to be floating. For example platform beds, glass bowl sinks, and big wall size windows all help creating a modern style home.

Art Styles

Abstract Art – Abstract art is very colorful and bright, the most distinctive thing about it; however, is the fact that it doesn’t represent any visual object; rather it normally is an expression of emotion or sound.

Classic Art – This type of art is one that has become very famous with artists such as Van Gogh and Edvard Munch, these artists don’t represent classic art just because their work is so old, but also the fact that artists such as these had a way of expressing their thoughts, visions, and dreams in their paintings, this is what makes up classic art.

Naturalistic Art – This would be one of the easiest to describe and to remember, it’s exactly what it says it is, nature. These are the most realistic paintings, sometimes they are so perfectly painted that they almost would appear to be a photo. You could pretty much describe this style as scenery and landscape pictures.

Representational Art – This style is very much as it says it is. When you see representational art it will very much represent something or somewhere, a picture of the statue of liberty for example, most people would instantly know what this is and where to find it, unlike a picture of a house or a mountain, you wouldn’t know exactly which house or mountain it is. So representation art is an exact replica of an object, person, or place.

Wang Guangyi was born on 1957 Born in Harbin, China. He lives and works in Beijing, China. The paintings of Wang Guangyi belong to the category of Chinese contemporary art termed Political Pop: work that appropriates the visual tropes of the propaganda of the Cultural Revolution, reworking them in the flat, colorful style of American Pop.

To understand the works of artists engaged in this practice, it is important to recognize the significance and specificity of the images they are using to fashion their work. Without this knowledge, the work of artists like Wang Guangyi may be reduced to a mere aestheticization of the experiences of the Cultural Revolution, a view which threatens to limit the discussion of these works to their formal elements, foreclosing more important ideological and historical questions that must be raised.

It is perhaps equally essential, particularly for Western audiences, to keep in mind the dominance that the Maoist regime held over visual culture and artistic production in China from 1949 to 1976, a control that reached a near totality between 1966 and 1972, during the Gang of Four’s reign [i].

Wang Guangyi’s paintings combine the ideological power of communist propaganda with the seductive allure of advertising. Juxtaposing revolutionary images with consumer logos, Wang’s canvases provocate with their duplicitous message, highlighting the conflict between China’s political past and commercialised present. Stylistically merging the government enforced aesthetic of agitprop with the kitsch sensibility of American pop, Wang’s work adopts the cold-war language of the 60s to ironically examine the contemporary polemics of globalisation.

Through his critique, Wang’s paintings weave intricate narratives, implicating the role of the artist as an active participant (both as subjugator and subservient) in economic and social policy. Wang treads a very delicate line between moral dictum and capitalist endorsement; the interpretation of his paintings alternates with the subjectivity of context. Amalgamating, confusing, and blurring opposing ideological beliefs, Wang’s billboard sized canvases readily sell out national valour, while simultaneously devaluing status symbol luxury for the proletariat cause.

Certainly, the vast legacy of propaganda that resulted from this period will continue to impact artists interested in critically examining China’s recent visual history. After all, these images were more than simply popular; for a time, they were the only ones allowed.

Conclusions:

Wang Guangyi had already established his own style and the impact of the work had won him a strong reputation in Chinese art circles.

0 A Brand New Painting by Urban Contemporary Artist THH70 UMAMIA brand-new promotional video detailing some of the process of creating a new 24 x 36″ canvas entitled “UMAMI” by Urban contemporary artist THH70.

Photographed on location in Dallas, Texas by THH70 & C. Kirk.

Bio

THH70 was born in human form in 1970 in Los Angeles, California, but the persona of his nom de plume was conceived in 1994 as a stage name for his other career as a recording artist. He is now an accomplished visual artist, with his works in private and corporate collections on every continent. Since 2000, he has sold over 1300 original mixed media pieces, and his website—www.thh70online.com—continues to receive thousands of hits per month. To date, THH70 has shown in solo and group shows in galleries and museums across the United States and the Caribbean, and has appeared in print and online publications worldwide.

THH70 is recognized for his unique artistic approach that he has branded Lo-Fi Urban
Contemporary, combining crude painterly techniques and utilizing materials and media (that include everything from acrylics and spray paint to household products like Windex and X-14 mildew remover) with his own style of raw illustration and stream-of-consciousness linguistics.

In 2001, sensing the online absence of a hub for like-minded artists to collectively exhibit their work, THH70 created AOA: Alternative Online Artists, an online, juried collective of approximately 30 artists. Since being founded, AOA has selected and maintained a roster of the nations most diverse and prolific alternative artists (with styles encompassing Pop, Outsider, Graffiti, Fluxus, Dada, Contemporary, Modern, Lowbrow, Urban, Abstract, Graphic Design, and Folk). The waves made by AOA artists continue to crash upon the art world, almost a decade later.

In late 2005, THH70 was interviewed (and appeared in) Americas Chemical Angels, a documentary by filmmaker Oxana Chumak about the overmedication of children with ADD/ADHD. In addition to the interview footage, THH70s seminal 2002 painting RITALIN® is featured prominently in the film, as well as in its promotional advertising.

2007: gallery hiatus.

2008: a busy year with multiple shows and appearances, showing of work alongside some of Contemporary Arts finest. Also in 2008: the release of THH70s self-published monograph THH70: an exploration of text, imagery, and other crazy , this a 94-page full-color book containing a selection of more than 100 paintings spanning the previous 3 years. In 08, THH70 also became a contributing editor to Mad Skills Magazine, an online arts & culture magazine in Europe.

2009 saw THH70s participation in an Obama-themed art exhibit in the Dominican Republic, where our hero was the only artist to be specially commissioned for his work in this show containing scores of works by internationally-renowned artists. In September 2009, five THH70 paintings were exhibited in a museum retrospective at The Contemporary Art Center of Virginia, which runs thru January 2010 and has already received massive critical acclaim. And in 2010, THH70 will be featured in the book Designing Obama, a 360-page book chronicling the grassroots art movement spawned by the 2008 Presidential Election and written by Scott Thomas, the Design Director of the historic campaign.

THH70 divides his time between Dallas, Texas and Los Angeles, CA.

The type of art shows I am referring to referring to would include still lifes, portraits, figure paintings, interiors, and landscapes in a classical realism style.

In order to get to the big leagues, you have to start with some regional shows.

www.artshow.com
www.artdeadlines.com

list all kinds of contests. Make sure you have really really good slides of your work. If your slides are crappy or mediocre, you won’t get in to many shows and you’ll be wasting those entry fees.

And, could you give me their website?

I am browsing for some paintings to put in my house.

Thanks in advance. :]

Frank Lloyd Wright is an amazing contemporary artist. He’s actually a modern architect though- the one who draws from nature and makes his buildings in that style? Like the house in the woods where the stream runs right through it? That’s him. He’s got beautiful photography of his work if you want to look that up.
