No Picasso or da Vinci please. Maybe contemporary artists, but if a renaissance painter is truely your favorite, go ahead. Thanks.

There are different panels that fold out and tell a story, they were used a lot during the renaissance in churches I believe, I just wanted to know if there was a name for that.
Also, does anyone know of any contemporary artists that do them today?
They’re called altarpieces. Try searching Jan van Eyck (especially the Ghent Altarpiece).
As for the contemporary artists who do the same sort, I haven’t been able to find any – I used altarpieces as one of my art assignments but I couldn’t find any contemporary artists. However, Odd Nerdrum does a whole lot of paintings that are very renaissance-like. Worth a visit to his site.

I’m writing my a level art dissertation on how idealized beauty has changed through the ages, and how it is presented in art. I’ve got plenty of images to discuss up until about the end of the 19th century, but that’s where I’m getting stuck. I’ve been looking at fashion photography for the more modern images, but I would like to discuss some ‘proper’ art as well rather than just media images. I can’t think of any artists or paintings in particular that celebrate idealized beauty…any ideas? thanks in advance ![]()
I think you should look at photography to talk about female stereotypes, all the colleges seem to teach is installations these days.

Watch me create my painting Girl In White Dress starting with a blank canvas. I paint from imagination and don’t use any models. I start painting directly on an empty canvas, inventing the shapes, colors and lines as I paint.
This is a very shortened video of the painting process – I put a series of video clips that show more of how I created this painting on my Facebook Fan Page:

Jane Crawford Intro: Jane grew up with her adoptive family in Mount Isa ,Queensland. Her real mother Pam is a well known aboriginal artist in the Northern Territory and it was not until an arranged meeting in 1986 that things suddenly changed for Jane. Already having obtained a bachelor of arts at the University of Queensland and working on a number of inner city projects Jane settled back with her mother for a year. Absorbing all the traditional methods of indigenous paintings combining with her own style Jane began to create and sell artworks in galleries around Darwin and Alice in the late 80′s early 90′s. JC’s art was first showcased in the aboriginal art gallery during the Brisbane Expo in 1988 (where we met) and since has sold to galleries worldwide. In 1995 Jane had an illness which made it too hard to paint and only in the last couple of years she has returned to “the thing she likes best’.

Try a Salvidor Dali print or Andy Warhol..If you are more conservative try Thomas Kinkade his painting prints reflect the light and some are different night and day to look at.The themes are beautiful and calming.Enjoy
